Information about the winery

Stéphane Aviron is a small, independent wine-maker in the Beaujolais region, the southernmost district of Burgundy. Stéphane himself inherited his passion for the wine sector from his father, who worked as a wine broker and owned an oenological laboratory in the area. After completing his studies in Beaune and in Dijon, he worked for a number of wineries in the United States. Upon returning to France he joined his father’s firm, and subsequently was involved with a bottling plant as well as working as a wine consultant and a winemaker in Chénas. Aviron has earned a reputation for being a neo- traditionalist, combining grapes from very old vines with both modern and traditional wine-making methods to produce wines that stand up to the finest of Burgundies in quality and complexity. He focuses on the Beaujolais village crus, creating very expressive, age-worthy wines relying on traditional and new methods, including organic and biodynamic vineyard management. All wines are labeled “Vieilles Vignes,” old vines, because the vines are at least 40 years old.
