Information about the winery

Villa Poggio Salvi is located in the rolling hills of Siena, Tuscany, only a few kilometers from the village of Montalcino. Its location is sunny and ideal for grape growing, with enough altitude and sea breeze to allow for a warm but relatively cool growing season. Its name means "the estate of the healthful hill," a reference to its ancient past when residents of the moist Maremmo district along the Tuscan coast were plagued with cholera and came up to these hills to recuperate. The philosophy at Villa Poggio Salvi is to make traditional wines with modern technologies… wines suited to modern tastes of the discriminating international consumer. It is a new and ambitious project, with a modern facility located winery just below the ancient Villa. It includes temperature controlled working areas, automated fermentation, mechanized pneumatic rakes and a modern bottling facility. The Villa also has a vast, temperature controlled storage room, where their traditional wines, such as their Brunello are aged inside rows of Slavonian oak barrels. At present they produce a wide range of wines which includes Brunello, Chianti, two Supertuscan monovarietals, Vermentino, a sparkling rosé, Grappa, Morellino di Scansano and even a sweet Moscadello di Montalcino. In order to accommodate this production, its owners have decided to embark upon an expansion and complete redesign of the winery. To meet this end, they have employed the award-winning Italian architect Benedetta Tagliabue, famous for her many works in Barcelona.
